Let Your Voice Be Heard

After receiving several requests for information from members of the public regarding the Immigration Bill 2026, I have created a way for more people to share their views.

Allow me to bring your collective voices to the forefront so that together, we can help shape this critical piece of legislation for the future of our country.

Your interest, inquiries, and submissions raised concerns about the impact of discontinuing the freelance work permit for children born to foreign parents in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and who have been educated through our primary and secondary school systems.

Contributions reaffirm the importance of informed public participation in shaping legislation that affects us all.

Contributors questioned what lawful pathways would exist for young people who have entered the islands as dependents and/or born in the TCI to foreign nationals, and whose parents remain legally employed.

The absence of a clearly articulated transition mechanism following secondary school was identified as an area requiring further clarification, particularly in relation to family unity, fairness, and long-term integration.

QUESTION EMERGING
FROM THIS THEME

What transitional status, if any, will be available to long-term resident dependents upon completion of secondary school?

How will the proposed framework address children who have spent the majority of their childhood in the country but are not Islanders?

Will alternative permits or pathways replace the role previously played by the freelance work permit for this group?

How does the proposed approach balance immigration control with family unity and social integration?
